Import Letterboxd movies into CinemaTrove

Bring ratings, watch dates, rewatch flags, and watchlist entries into CinemaTrove from official Letterboxd CSV files.

Choose a CSV to preview

CinemaTrove will ask you to sign in or create an account before opening the importer.

How to import

  1. Open your Letterboxd account settings and use its Import and Export option to request your data export.
  2. Open the downloaded export and choose diary.csv, ratings.csv, or watchlist.csv. Upload one file at a time.
  3. CinemaTrove will validate the rows and show a preview. Nothing is saved until you confirm the import.

Supported fields

CSV fieldWhat CinemaTrove does
Name and YearUsed to find an exact movie title and release year in TMDB.
RatingImported on Letterboxd's 0.5 to 5 scale.
Watched DateImported from diary.csv as a viewing date.
RewatchMarks the diary viewing as a rewatch.
watchlist.csvAdds each valid movie to your CinemaTrove watchlist.

Not imported

  • Letterboxd reviews, comments, likes, lists, and tags
  • The Date column, because it records when an entry was added rather than when the movie was watched
  • Rows that cannot be matched to the same title and release year in TMDB

Matching and validation

CinemaTrove accepts CSV files smaller than 2 MB with up to 500 movie rows. It validates the columns, rating scale, and date format before showing a preview.

TMDB IDs and IMDb IDs are checked against TMDB. Rows without an identifier must match the same title and release year. A row is skipped when CinemaTrove cannot make a safe match.

CinemaTrove does not sign in to Letterboxd or scrape Letterboxd pages.

The Letterboxd URI is recognized as a format marker but it is not used to fetch data.

File privacy

Your CSV is read for the preview and is not retained as an uploaded file. Previewing does not write movie data to your account. Supported rows are saved only after you confirm the import.

Movie identifiers, titles, and years may be sent to TMDB for matching. Your email address, ratings, reviews, and viewing dates are not sent to TMDB.

Read the privacy policy for more information about account data.
